
Gordon Brown has announced that “members of Parliament need to have the humility to recognise that the country has lost confidence in the current system“. Canny observation. Here’s one of his ideas:
“Instead of the second homes allowance MPs would get a “flat rate” allowance based on attendance at Parliament.”
That’s right: MPs are to be paid extra for turning up to work. Presumably the £64,766 basic salary before allowances doesn’t cover this onerous obligation.
If I wore glasses, I’d be taking them off, rubbing my eyes and sighing, like my maths teacher used to. Where do you even begin?
